AS THE SECOND DIVISION WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP BEGINS ON JANUARY 10, 2026, GAKENKE WFC COMMITS TO THE BATTLE FOR PROMOTION TO THE FIRST DIVISION

‎Gakenke Women Football Club (WFC), which plays in the second division of Rwandan men’s and women’s football, is in intensive preparations as the Second Division Championship is set to start on January 10, 2026. The preparations aim to perform well and once again compete for promotion to the first division, a goal shared by the club’s management and players.

‎In this context, Gakenke WFC’s committee, technical staff, and partners held a special meeting to strengthen relationships, improve collaboration, and establish solid strategies that will ensure good performance in the upcoming championship. The meeting was also an opportunity to review the 2024–2025 season, which, although not entirely successful, provided lessons that informed new decisions.

‎Gakenke WFC’s coach, HAKUZIMANA Sadji Corneille, stated that last season did not yield the desired results, but emphasized that the team’s goal of promotion to the first division has remained on track.

‎He said:

‎"The 2024–2025 season did not go as we hoped in terms of achieving promotion to the First Division, but we are now ready and determined to move up."

‎The coach added that the current preparations are based on teamwork and understanding between the staff and players, with several meetings already held to prepare for the new season.

‎"Looking at the collaboration between the staff and the players, there is a lot of readiness, especially since we have held multiple meetings to plan thoroughly. We are also preparing many friendly matches and putting in a lot of effort to go far," he said.

‎HAKUZIMANA Sadji Corneille also highlighted the players’ exceptional enthusiasm, reflecting confidence that Gakenke WFC can perform well in the highly anticipated championship.

‎In a message to football fans across Rwanda, he asked for their support, especially from those in the Gakenke district.

‎He said:

‎"What I would tell all men’s and women’s football fans in Rwanda is to come and support us. Our goal hasn’t changed, and now we have added more effort than last season. The players are motivated, and there is a real opportunity to compete as we aim for promotion to the First Division. We strongly believe this is possible, but we greatly need our fans."

‎Gakenke WFC continues to demonstrate its commitment to developing women’s football in Rwanda by promoting young talent and giving girls opportunities to shine at the national level.

‎With only a few days remaining until the Second Division Men’s and Women’s Championship kicks off on January 10, 2026, Gakenke WFC is ready to enter the competition with confidence, thorough preparation, and a single goal: returning to the First Division.
